In order to obtain high starch and good yield mutant lines in sweet potato, sprouts of a sweet potato variety, Suwon No. 147, were irradiated with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16kR of gamma-ray.
The various changes in shape and skin color of tuberous root have been observed in irradiated progenies, R₁, R₂. Variations for T/R value, weight of tuberous roots per plant and weight of a tuberous root were greatly appeared within decreasing direction whereas for number of tuberous roots per plant were appeared within increasing direction in R₂, A wide range of variations for the characters studied was found in this study.
The results simply that there are some possibility to find useful mutant lines which possess good yield capacity, high starch content and better storing ability.
